Anyone got any first hand recommendations for the best place for a pub meal in Ullapool? I am very familiar with the local chippy but think that may not cut it with Mrs D for a night out in the 'pool next week!

I've always enjoyed the Ferryboat Inn. Decent pint too.

Try the Seafood Shack. meant to go there for my Graham Compleation on Stac Pollaidh, but it was booked out, Ferry Boat Inn doesn't open on a Monday in October (or didn't) so we ended up getting pizza and fish and chips in The Frigate. Comes of waiting for decent weather instead of just going.

That place next to the ferry terminal, with all the windows. Can't remember the name. I may have been drinking... Kettle of mussels, lovely.

Take a drive out onto the Coigach peninsula and go to 'Salt' in Achiltibuie.
Well worth the drive. You won't be disappointed!

Might be an idea to book though.

Agreed - Very Boat Inn but book in advance

The Arch Inn was very good when we went a couple of years ago. Gets very busy so best to book or arrive early.

Alternatively...leap on a Calmac to the Western Isles and wolf down their excellent grub

The seaforth? You used to get a pint of prawns there and I love seafood. Typical pub grub with some seafood dishes.

The Arch Inn good also. The FBI I find a bit cramped but good food. The Morefield always had a good reputation but I haven't been there for years.

A friend recently recommended the Ceilidh Place though I haven't been yet.

Decisions decisions

I would suggest the Ceilidh Place. You would need to book in the season but I would expect it to be quieter now. On occasion they have some musicians, good beers too.

Avoid the Seaforth Inn. Had a terrible meal there a few weeks back. Just awful.

Had a pint in the Arch Inn a few years back but never ate in the place. Might check that out again. Sounds like the Seaforth is one to avoid though! Thanks for all the suggestions. All I need now is for someone to sort the weather out!

That's a shame, it used to be good. These places hire and fire chefs like nobody's business so they must have got rid of the good ones and got in a duffer to work for peanuts.That will backfire on them...

Some of these places it depends when you go also unfortunately. The seaforth is a drinking place and I have been in on a weekend night when food is being served also. Gets a bit hectic and it didn't look a great dining experience .
I've been in when it was quieter and was always decent pub grub. Some places need to decide if they are a pub or a restaurant I think. It's a hard balance but sitting outside in the sun with a pint glass full of beer and another full of fresh shell on prawns ~ it doesn't get much better than that.
Though a kettle of mussels sounds pretty good too.

Too right ~ I see the Sligachan on Skye has turned to table service. Not sure how that will go with loads of thirsty hikers and climbers needing vast quantities of beer//cider etc. And it's a vast barn of a place.
