Painting/view question

Painting/view question

Postby Stu101 » Sat Oct 13, 2018 10:17 am

My friends, friend bought this picture the other day in a second hand shop. Anyone got any ideas where it is? For some reason I thought it might be stac polly from a certain angle - but I don't think that adds up.

Looks like a lyrical view of Goat Fell from Glen Sannox on the Isle of Arran.

I think that's a good shout, but the hill in your photo (and likely the picture too) is Cir Mhor. It could also be from Glen Rosa.

If you google in images "Cir Mor from Glen Rosa" this is what you get. Well done Caberfeidh and jmarkb. QED

God that's right, I got lost that day and was so disappointed when some people told me I was not on Goat Fell - and they pointed it out far off in the misty distance...

I remember the tree in the view - it's in an old postcard I have (also the 1970s Colourmaster books, if anyone remembers them!)

And this is what happens when you google "Tree in Glen Rosa". Probably been blown down by now. Probably taken from nearer the tree (or a different one?).

Glen Rosa was the long weekend for camp and climbs a few times in the 1960's.....access to one of Scotland's easier classic climbs on the fine rock of the South Ridge of Chir Mhor. :) The 'witch's step' to the right.
