New kingshouse prices

New kingshouse prices

Postby Jengaladdie » Sat Nov 10, 2018 10:47 pm

At last the Kingshouse Hotel are now taking bookings for next year . And as feared are charging accordingly £180 for a single room !!!!! A bit different from the normal £45 . As soon as a saw the word Hydro involved I feared the worst . So it’s the bunkhouse for me , as o wouldn’t encourage them 😡😡

I suspect they will want to separate the scruff from the poshos by pricing us out so we will be in the bunkhouse and the poshos will be in the more salubrious accommodation (the fumes from the scruff tarnish the shine on the poshos). I was up recently and at least the building itself looks ok, not such a blot on the landscape as feared.

Bunkhouse it is for me next July...... however the hotel does seem to blend nicely in and at least doesn't have at inner city "Premier Inn" look about it. I guess time will tell if they can sustain these prices.

Got to agree it doesn’t look too bad , but the prices are ridiculous. , vast majority of people walking past are WHW walkers , so how many are really going to pay that amount for a room , be cheaper to get the bus to glencoe village , if you want a room over your head , but it’s a pain getting transport back and forward , like we did last year . So it’s july for me as well . , I’ll be the one at the end of the bunkhouse cafe bar . Soft drink of course 😀

£180 sounds very expensive, do you get a personal butler? Time will tell if it reasonable or not. If it is too expensive, people won't stay there and they will be forced to bring the price down.

I think that you will find that there will be enough people who will pay over the odds for a room in an area where there is very little alternative accommodation. Even campsites now are becoming ridiculously expensive. I was offered a pitch for my one person camper van at the campsite in Grantown on Spey for £32 (a basic pitch) or £35 ( a luxury pitch). For one night. Admittedly for this you do get all sorts of stuff that you don't really want (Wi-Fi, a free sat box, underfloor heating in the toilets etc etc.). I only went there because it was during the heatwave and I really needed a shower. However, the leisure centre let me have a shower for £1 and I found a nice spot in the woods near Nethy Bridge to spend the night. I recently stayed at the Grant Arms for £46 B and B. A very nice en suite room and a fantastic breakfast.

Probably no more expensive than the Bridge of Orchy hotel.
Sure it will be hard to get a room even at that price as it's no different to hotels in all the popular walking areas charging inflated prices.

I think we should have a whipround and send Caberfeidh to check it out for us.

A standard room in March with breakfast is £135 - rising to a whopping £240 in July. Sorry; ah'm oot...

(Weekend rates; mid-week is about £30 cheaper).

The Inn looks okay. Not so sure about the whopping great warehouse built behind it though ;)

It opens on 4th February 2019

I don't like the look of it going by the photos but will be in Glencoe in a couple of weeks. I will go and have a look then.
Accomodation in Glencoe is expensive anyway. The Clachaig is around £150 a night (high season) with a minimum stay of 2 nights.

Had a look at the website £3.50 for a bacon roll up to £90 for a seafood platter.
I wonder how much they will charge for a beer?
