This morning I watched an episode of a TV documentary about winter rescue services and one piece was about a rescue on Ben Nevis of a walker who is lucky to be still alive. He put himself in front of the TV cameras and admitted that he had attempted the climb in winter when poorly equipped. When on the upper slopes the weather had deteriorated badly, with snow and wind and he had become lost and hypothermic. He had to be rescued after many hours on the mountain and had to have his finger tips amputated due to frostbite. He showed his hands to the cameras and told us that he had not only risked his own life, but also the lives of the rescue team members.
It takes a big person to admit to a huge audience that they got it wrong instead of coming up with lots of excuses. Good on him.
