Advice, please

Advice, please

Greetings all, from Australia.

I’m hoping someone might be able to offer some advice, please.

With 3 others I’d like to do some walking in the Highlands in August.

Our plan is to take the Caledonian Sleeper to Rannoch Station and stay in the Moor of Rannoch hotel for two nights.

I understand there is a good walk by taking the train to Corrour Station then walking back to the hotel via Loch Ossian.

That would take care of one day and I’m hoping someone can suggest a couple of other walks in the general area, and accommodation options. Walks that begin or end near a railway station would be ideal.

Thanking anyone in advance.

Cheers,

Check out the film Trainspotting for cultural reference and Leum Uilleim for a suggestion:) The train station in question is Corrour.

Sorry couldn't help it.

The hill and walk pages like https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/fortwilliam/spean-bridge.shtml will give you lots of ideas as well as indications about lengths and difficulties. Everything is nice out there.

I walked from Corrour to Spean Bridge last March. Maybe you could do it the other way round. There is B & B accomodation at Corrour and also a Youth Hostel.
All the best.

If you are walking through the Loch Ossian/Corrour Station area, you could consider going up Beinn na Lap. It's a fairly short Munro hike that you could tag on to your walk from Corrour to Rannoch station...time, fitness and weather permitting. It's a good viewpoint if you get decent visibility.

You could fairly easily climb Carn Dearg as a diversion form the Road to the Isles track from Corrour to Rannoch Station - start as for https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/fortwilliam/sgor-gaibhre.shtml and then follow the south ridge to rejoin the path.
Other options could be Beinn Dorain and Beinn an Dothaidh for Bridge of Orchy Station https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/argyll/beinn-dorain.shtml
or for a low-level option, the Crianlarich to Bridge of Orchy section of the WHW: parts of https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/lochlomond/inverarnan-tyndrum.shtml and https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/argyll/tyndrum-inveroran.shtml

Great idea. I met a couple on the summit of Stob na Cruaiche ( a short hop from the hotel) last year. They had done what you are planning and waxed lyrical about the pleasures of going to sleep down south then waking up at Rannoch. They weren't really relishing the return trip in quite the same way.
