Giorra dam access March 19

Giorra dam access March 19

Postby johanz85 » Sat Mar 16, 2019 11:19 pm

Hello everyone,

Planning on getting out to the hills for a few days on Monday.

Can anyone tell me what the road conditions are like leading up to Giorra Dam from Invervar? Is it normally cleared or gritted? My car has winter tyres which have kept me from getting stuck in winter conditions. I’m already assuming the road via Lochan na Lairige is currently impassable, but please correct me if i’m wrong!

Any info much appreciated.

Cheers!

Might be ok, its not that high coming through glen Lyon but I guess may not be gritted.
I suspect that coming over past Ben Lawers though will definitely be blocked.

I would not go there in this weather; the roads are not gritted, there is ice, snow, rain, hail - which builds up very quickly into a slithery slush - and the hills will be worse.

At the minute certain roads ard gritted/ treated to a point. There are signs up telling you this I drove down the track to schiehallion on Monday and ended up turning back and going to pitlochry and up vrackie. When I turned round I was faced with a snow plough. It wasn't gritting , it was just ploughing and flattening the snow!!
After yesterday's snow - well, I dont know.
All the best wherever you go.

A lot of snow below 400m has melted during today, but it could still be sketchy, especially if it freezes tonight.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their replies, it's much appreciated.

I'll be passing Loch Tay tomorrow so that should help me decide, but I may wait until Tuesday or Wednesday when the milder condutions have set in to have a go.

Cheers!
