Follow-up check on the above subject matter - tried my ancient Garmin eTREX (circa 2001) and date format on this device is fine.

Don't care what it does as long as it gives the current grid reference. Are you sure you're not picking up on an old April Fool?

I've two old garmins that I thought may be affected but both of them showed the correct date & time after they eventually found the satellites (hadn't been switched on for a few years)

I took the old yellow garmin out for a 7 mile walk today. It found the satellites. It hasn't cured the problem. It is now reading 29 Aug 99. I don't really care. The other functions appear to be working.
I also have an Etrex 30. The date is working fine on that.
