GPX planner problems

Is there a hickup with the technology today (Easter Sunday)? When I plot a route on the GPS planner all is well, but as soon as I go to download I get told:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /maps/gpxout.php on this server.

It's never been a problem for me before, so not sure if it's something with my machine or an issue with the kit back at WH HQ - not used to the sun shining on a bankholiday weekend perhaps

This may not be much help,but I've just downloaded this route from WH onto my GPS Garmin 64 and no issues

We've been having a DDoS attack from China in recent days, and as a result have increased some of the security checks on the site, to root out bad traffic. It sounds like these have affected exporting GPX tracks from the route planner. I'm looking into this now.

I got the same message when trying to upload a walk report this morning. When it did eventually work, I had lost half of the words! Luckily it was pretty short and worked fine afterwards.

I was able to upload my plotted routes last night no bother. Looks like it might be an intermittent issue still though from others comments.

What is a ddos attack? And how do you know it’s China? (Just curious really....)

DDoS = Distributed Denial of Service. That's where multiple different computers all request something time-consuming from the same server at the same time, with the aim of overloading the server. It's one of the more popular ways to bring down someone's website.

It's possible to tell the country of origin from the originating IP addresses, though aiui attackers like to use other people's compromised machines* by remote control, so all it really tells you is where the compromised machines are. The induhvidual(s) behind it could be anywhere.
