Backpacking trip suggestions

Backpacking trip suggestions

Postby PaulOD » Fri May 17, 2019 12:18 pm

Hi all. I finished the West Highland Way over a week ago now and have been looking for the next trail to attempt. Was originally planning to visit family then attempt the Arran coastal way. However I'm now back in England with 2 weeks left of my time off work.
Was also considering Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk over a week. But after doing the WHW I feel my country of birth is calling.

Where would any of you suggest as a good 4-5 day trail/trek, nothing too flat.

If you are intending a trip back to Scotland you could do the Lairig Ghru and camp out while doing one of the many Munros that are very accessible. Ben Macdui, Braeriach, Devils Point etc etc. Good climbs and majestic scenery on your way.

Maybe have a few days on Skye? Loads of good walking there, including the Quarang in the North, scenes of highlands clearances at Susnish, beautiful Camasunary bay from Sligachan, and the many lovely beaches, hills and mountains.

As above, a Caingorms route using the Lairig Ghru would be good. This would need more route planning, making your own itinerary and decisions

The Affric-Kintail way would make a good waymarked alternative, entering some truly wild country beyond Loch Affric.

The Skye Trail is another one.

If you want a epic trip over hills then walk from Attadale to Struy.
