Bear Gairich.jpg

It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that Bear sadly died suddenly a couple of days ago. He was of a good age for a dog of his size, reaching 13 years and had been in good health right up to the end, which, whilst a surprise, was a blessing as he died peacefully and did not suffer at all.

He has been a good companion to me and our entire family, over the years and, although he was fairly disrespectful to me in his reports, we were good friends and enjoyed the hills together.

I know his reports have been enjoyed by many of you over the past few years so if you want to see them, or revisit them I have put the links below. Whilst I can no longer give him treats for likes gained, I will make a contribution to a rescue dog charity for any further likes.

Sorry to hear that Keith. I agree a sudden departure, while very upsetting for you and your family, is far better than any illness and as you say a good age.

I have enjoyed Bear's postings of his and your walks.

You have my condolences, it is a shame, their lives are so brief and ours so much longer. He has shuffled off this mortal coil and joined the pack invisible.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Remember Bear well was it at Torridon or Gairloch YH with my Jet. Take comfort of all the happy times and adventures you both had together. Memories never go away.

Keith mate, I am so sorry to hear this news. I very much enjoyed reading Bear's reports. He had a very witty turn of phrase for a canine writer! I regret that I did not get to share more time amongst the hills with him but fondly remember that walk in to Duror bothy a few years back, where oddly enough I returned just the other day with my daughter in tow before we drove back south the next day to visit the resting place of our Lucy on Ben Vorlich. She was a dog of the hills too (although somewhat less literate than Bear! ) and it is good to know that she is now at rest in a place that she knew well and will forever be special. I am sure you will find a similar suitable place for Bear to rest in peace and from where he can silently tut and shake his head at your amateur bumblings amongst the hills! Walk on in peace Bear.

Many thanks to all of you for all the kind comments.

The place does seem strange and rather empty without him but we are consoled by the fact he had a very good active life and was much loved by many. Complete strangers would come up and say how gorgeous we was.

Yes, I remember Bear meeting with Jet, I think at Gairloch and Inchnadamph, where Bear was caught dancing on the tables!

Graeme, Yes, I will be taking Bear home to Laide next weekend and will be burying his ashes in the garden where he will be able to look out over An Teallach forevermore . Hopefully he will be able to see me compleat there soon, probably much to his amazement.

I'm really sorry to hear about Bear, I remember him from the Gairloch Meet. He was such a cute fur face.
