Agree with this. I did a lot of late winter cycling (far more than last year) in preparation for the Etape Loch Ness at the end of April. My cycle fitness was far better than at any point previously, and there's no doubt it helped the following week in Skye. I also find I deal with hill descents better when I'm cycle fit.
As you say, after a few hill days, the bike feels horrific, my thighs tend to hurt after descents, so i'm guessing that's why i feel so out of sorts on a bike after a period of hillwalking.
