Three Lochs Way, information please.

Three Lochs Way, information please.

Postby Glenshee » Sun Oct 27, 2019 3:27 pm

I am planning to do the TLW next Spring - a slight possibility I will do it this November if there is a good weather window. I was thinking of returning south down Loch Lomond on the West Highland Way. I could well decide to do this last minute at the end of the TLW; I think I will then need a permit to camp. I have looked on line but it seems you have to book a permit ahead, Is a walk up permit possible at the campsites. Any advice would be welcome.

Do the camping restrictions / permits not just apply through the summer months ? Check the website again

The camping restrictions along Loch Lomond only apply between March and September, so if you do your trip in November you should be all set!

I think you will be fine - I suspect the restrictions apply to party goers from Glasgow

It looks like you can book online (assuming you have a smartphone with signal).
I'd probably chance it myself - if someone's coming round to enforce the restrictions and you're in a permitted site, then ask if you can buy a permit. The scheme's intention is to stop the irresponsible, so I'd hope they'd use a bit of common sense even fi you're theoretically meant to buy permits in advance.

Thanks guys for the useful information.
I have done all 19 GB trails and lots of 50 milers so many mountains and hills. However I did not start a hill tick list. I might get around to it in my dotage-busy walking at the moment.

Remember, many Lomond Trossachs permit camping areas are unsuitable for camping. It is a scam
