Plans for 2020

Re: Plans for 2020

I've got my eye on a 95-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail, which will include the entirety of the West Virginia and Maryland sections and involve me sleeping in a tent for the first time ever.

A trip to Scotland is probably not in the cards for 2020, but whenever I do make it back over, the Borders Abbeys Way is next.

Just hoping to maintain fitness after an injury prone year!

Hopefully, our annual winter trip will be able to take place this year after missing out last. Might even tick off a few new summits for once! Also hope to get into the wilder parts of the NW with the canoes once again around Easter.

Summer might include a trip to Scandinavia.

The only boat that goes at a reasonable price( MV Glorious) also has a tendency to ditch you if more paying customers with a different agenda come along (e.g. fishermen), so it is best to see if you can fill the boat i.e. advertising here as well as on the Meets thread. We got to go on the third attempt. 1. Scratched due to not enough
2. Scratched due to wind too high and from wrong direction

Investigations have commenced Sgurr :D I'm aware the skipper can bump walkers for fishing types. Hopefully we'll get the 12 we need and he'll take us no bother.

Finalized my walking itinerary for late May as well, with some drinking at the front and rear end.

TUE 19.05: evening flight to Edinburgh
WED 20.05: drinking in Edinburgh
THU 21.05: train/bus to Fort William
FRI 22.05: Fort William to Glenfinnan
SAT 23.05: Glenfinnan to Sourlies bothy
SUN 24.05: Sourlies bothy to Kinloch Hourn (B&B or wildcamp?)
MON 25.05: Kinloch Hourn to Cluanie (wildcamp)
TUE 26.05: Cluanie to Alltbeithe hostel
WED 27.05: Alltbeithe to Cannich – bus/train to Kinlochewe
THU 28.05: BUFFER
FRI 29.05: Slioch
SAT 30.05: Kinlochewe to Shenavall
SUN 31.05: Shenavall to Inverlael – hitchhike to Ullapool
MON 01.06: bus/train back to and drinking in Edinburgh
TUE 02.06: flight back home

Perhaps I will use the buffer day to spend more time in the Fisherfield area, but most likely I will be held up somewhere earlier and I'll just use Slioch for my views from the top.

This being my 4th trip to the Highlands, it took me a bit more effort to find a route where I am not overlapping previously visited areas.

Get to 100 munros.

Still to do the SGS ridge and plenty other multi munro days so reckon it will easily be accomplished.

Work depending, I hope to get in a dozen weekends up in Scotland.
Not sure how many Munros that will see me bag but hope to get as many multi Munro days in as possible.
I also have four days in Skye planned to bag all of them there all being well.

Keeping it real again, as several things going on again this year. Munros up above the 200-Mark would be good & realistic given trips to Lochaber, Braemar, Knoydart & Torridon, as well as a yet to be determined multi-day trip in June, planned for the first half of the year (picking off any Corbetts, Grahams or Marilyns along the way).

Potential trip to Norway in the offing too.

2019 was a poor year for walking for me so I'm going to hit the hills big time in 2020. It was such a poor a year I've had to take a look at the hill fitness thread.

I'm looking at 'finally' completing the Wainwrights (approx 60 to do), adding on at least two new Munros and hitting the nearby Peak District as much as possible. I'll also throw in a 'one-day' challenge for good measure.

Fingers crossed!

Isn't that a significant subset of the Cape Wrath trail?

Get wired into the Corbetts and the main focus is an attempt at the Cape Wrath Trail.

was proper poorly with hepatitis in October and not even managed Roseberry Topping since, so my plan is to get fit and do the south Kintail ridge (with Rudolph of course) and some more stuff as well. Fortunately the hepatitis was not the lingering kind, no idea where it came from! So this should be achievable, but requires a bit of commitment from me to get off my backside!

Quite so. From Fort William to Kinloch Hourn and from Kinlochewe to Inverlael this all seems to follow the CWT yeah.

I'm struggling with plans, now that I can't start with the number of Wainwrights planned for the year (well, 1, and I've done it!). I've got plenty to do, but I don't have an itinerary for years ahead...

I'm trying to keep the four traditionally inviolate weekends for one English trip and 3 Scottish ones - weighing up the relative merits of the North Pennines and the Dales, and especially looking forward to a trip into the wilderness from Blair Atholl. I'm hoping to get back to Wales this year, as well.

I've got my ticket for HebCelt, and was thinking about a trip via Inverness and Ullapool, but a return to Harris might be more likely. And I'm going to Corrour on the way to Skye.

Maybe I'll set a 20 Munro and 10 Donald target and see what happens, although I'm never very good with numbers...

Get into the 60's for the munros with the top 10 highest completed. At 32 just now, so doable but I do like the lesser hills everybit as much. Corbett are lacking so would like to bring that number up too.

Visit Skye in the summer for family camping trip, hike some hills if not to technical.

Have a go at fell running march/April see how winter pans out.

Finally get into overnight camping.
