Those familiar with Bob Allen's now classic 'On High Lakeland Fells' can hardly fail to remember the two schnauzers, Henry and Freddy, which went with him on all the routes he describes (including a lot of scrambles, apparently) , and feature prominently in his photos. Although he does describe one of them coming to grief (temporarily) on the climbers' traverse on Bowfell, I think it was.
