I referred to this link: https://www.scottishmountainrescue.org/scottish-government-statement-for-the-outdoor-community/ in a reply to the "C Word" topic earlier, but it's fairly...blunt, so maybe deserves a heading of it's own...

Totally agree with this. If we want to see an end of this virus it's going to be a long hard journey. Everyone's got to stay at home, except for only essential supplies etc. This virus is going to be here till at least a year or more, but by doing the right thing, we can be past the worst in 3 or 4 months. The government should be imposing much stricter restrictions, they will definitely come anyway, so do it now. They should have done that a month ago, before it got to being this bad. They did nothing to stop, or at least reduce, it getting into the country. The UK as an island could have been in a good position to prevent it getting in, but we did nothing, keeping our ports and airports open, with little or no checks.

I think the MRT have come out with this because of the numpties in the campervans flooding the highlands and also the far bigger well publicised influx in Wales. Probably inevitable anyway that it will be forced upon us.

Unfortunately the UK needs the ports and the tunnel open as we are not capable of feeding ourselves. I reckon it is the French that are pulling the strings and they may well decide when we ramp up the restrictions further with the threat of closing the border completely.

As for the hills. I'm planning a couple of outings before the inevitable shutdown and before I go back for a long stint at work. It will be local stuff and more sensible than exercising in the streets of Inverness, and with far less or even no contact with any others.

Hopefully the best of humanity will shine through and with a common sense approach we can get through this quickly and lessons are learnt.

Look forward to some great days out later in the year when things have improved.

but hits home.
All of those involved in the rescue live locally within small, often vulnerable, communities and have family and friends here.

Looks like it has been removed, but it detailed a 9-hour rescue of some people from the Black Cuillin ridge at the weekend, plus another rescue of walkers from the Trotternish.

All the hills will be there for eon's after us.

Is it too much to ask to stay at home for a bit and hopefully make sure some of us are around a bit longer?

Peoples sense of self entitlement in some places is beyond belief, treating the (partial) shutdown as a public holiday.

If anything and I'm not trying to moan at them, the powers that be need to be a bit more firm than suggesting we stay at home, as clearly a lot are just sticking 2 fingers up to the guidance.
