Thank you for posting that. It should be compulsory reading for everyone, and especially those who think it quite ok to disregard the regulations.

I don't scare easily, but I am susceptible to chest infections and it frightens me to think others might infect me through their irresponsibility. For everyones' sake stay at home!

April 1984 the US Health Department said an HIV vaccine was two years away. In 2018 the NHS was saying they were "cautiously optimistic" about current human vaccine trials. There still isn't a HIV vaccine you'd want to take.

But HIV is a lot more complicated than Corona. And 1984 was another time.
And at least there is very good medication for HIV now, which allows a fairly "normal" life expectancy.

And with Corona at least the Immune system reacts(which it doesn't with HIV, not effectively)

So the other chance is to bring down case numbers to a controllable count. This will take about one or two month if people are not acting stupid.
Only shortcoming: Acting stupid is a very common human trait.

C19 is the only known Coronavirus strain that has an HIV-like mutation, so already it's not exactly like the other C-strains.

Yes, in a few weeks we can bring household-to-household transmission down, but the moment the lockdown starts to lift what reason to we have to expect infection and death rates won't start to climb again?

Easy: People have trained.That is something which already happened in Asia with SARS and MERS.
From what I see in Germany, even with reducing the lock down measure, people keep their distance a lot more than they did before.

Second: Having some similarities to HIV does not mean it works like HIV.
BTW: If you want to contribute to the fight, install BOINC on your home machine and therejoin the Rosetta@home project, which takes idle time from you PC to calculate protein structures, ( for many illnesses, but mainly Covid-19 at the moment) in an effort to find something to block the mechanism used by the virus.
