Fisherfield question

Fisherfield question

Postby Coop » Tue Apr 28, 2020 3:39 pm

Just planning a couple of routes/ trips for when this is done / allowed out. Hopefully before the clocks go back. If this one has to wait till next year, then it has to wait until next year. I'm looking at various ways of doing fisherfield over a few days together.
One option:
If I went and did the 1st 4 from sheneval and decided to come down from Beinn Tarsuinn is there a feasible way straight down into Glean na Muice,
Or is heading along to the bealach with what looks like a small lochan ( grid 024734) a better option to then head down NE.
Dont really want to rush these 6 in one day. Want to enjoy it and savour it - also I may have no energy left at this point😁

Stay safe folks - we'll get there together and the hills will be still there when we come out of this
Cheers to all the NHS and carers out there doing a fantastic job

Just looking at the map, I would suggest following the NW ridge of Tarsuinn beyond the point where you would normally bear off left towards A' Mhaighdean, avoid the steep ground at the end of the ridge by heading NE to the Allt nan Coireachan Odhar and follow it down into the glen.

Yeah cheers thars roughly where I was looking at. Hadn't seen any reports of coming down that way though that's why I queried it. It's another option when I get round to it.
Noticed you've still these to do as well. Enjoy when you do go up.

Just need a few days of high pressure, with clear skies, little wind, not too hot , and no rain now.... and good views :D

Safe walking folks when we do get out and up.

Worth noting that Beinn a Chlaidheimh is no longer a Munro, so it's now the Fisherfield 5 ...... Not that that should be any reason not to include it!

Yes, need to revisit for our second rounds. First time we did all 6 in a day from a camp at Achnegie: quite a long one! Not sure whether to repeat that tactic or do something different next time.

It would be rude not to do all 6 while I'm there

Good feed at Aultguish Inn to set us up for weekend.

Our group of 6 with 3 tents walked in late on a Friday night from Dundonnell and camped at riverside by end of track 11pm, twilight on a track meant no navigation issues .

flat grassy area below Cnoc nan Righreon.

Next morning headed up Beinn a'Chlaidheimh and continued the circuit of 5 munros/1 corbett, so all summits in one day.

We camped on Saturday night at bealach between A'Mhaighdean and Ruadh Stac mor - found water wee bit below bealach on North side.

sunday walked out on stalkers paths past Shenavall, and again filled our bellies at Aultguish Inn on way home

A superb team outing

Hi Coop,
I did the ' Eastern' 3 Munros from Incheril last summer , decent walk in , camp at a beauty spot at the loch overlooking Slioch , then an easy 5-6 hour walk to the 3 hills . Walk out afterwards .

My first trip after the lockdown restrictions have been lifted is the Western 2 Munros from Poolewe. Apart from the distance involved the 2 hills look like a doddle .
Bring it on.

Good luck with your planning

We escaped down Pollan na Muice and followed the stream, it's a bit rough in places but nothing untoward.

It's still the Fisherfield Six, Beinn a Chlaidheimh didn't disapear over night, it was only reclassified. 8)

Nice one , hope you got some decent views on A' Mhaighdean.
Good team effort indeed taking 3 tents up and over. Well in

Ah, but it's only called the Fisherfield 6 because Beinn a Chlaidheimh used to be a munro. It was so named by bagger type folk. If not other corbetts in the fisherfield forest and munro tops could have been added to the number. It could have been the Fisherfield 7 or 8 or more. The goal now for many of the aforementioned folk is the 282 not the 283.

Sorry about that - just had to get it out there. :D

The good thing aboout having the six hills (formerly six munros) is that it is possible to do them all in one day. I doubt it would be possible for anyone but the fittest fastest fell runners to do all munros and corbets in Fisherfield in one day.

Is An Teallach not in Fisherfield? It is so close maybe it should be added to make the Fisherfield seven.
