No the weather will be warm and sunny until the point I get a rush of blood to the head and book the sleeper train for a long weekend of backpacking, then we'll get the flip to five months of soggy crapness. I was up in the NW highlands for two weeks last June, which was Scotland's second wettest summer on record.

This isn't actually true, there is no significant correlation between mean April temperature or precipitation, and that of the following summer.

I have my ticket on the sleeper booked now for later in the year - wanted to get in before the rush. I might have to change it if the relaxation of rules comes sooner.

Hoping for some decent weather, but not too hot. I was on Beinn Eighe on 15th May last year and was roasted. Driving back to Gairloch the car thermometer was reading 25C.

Getting all dewy eyed! I visited Gairloch and the surrounding area for many years when visiting a much loved aunt who lived there. Sadly no longer with us, but a great place to visit.

we are already taking a punt and booking Air B and B self catering cottages in England and will be on the starting line for doing the same in Scotland - so will a million others I suppose

Agreed, peak Campervan/Caravan season too! 👎 Not before mid October for me. It's going to be proper daft before then.

I was full of plans until I remembered the midges.
I'm not sure the Islands are opening up as much as the rest of Scotland, problems of social distancing on ferries. I'm beginning to wonder when the day will come that I can get to the mainland, leave alone anywhere else!

Would it be a very bad idea to backpack from Blair Atholl to Aviemore across the Forest of Atholl and Cairngorm munros for this reason?

I'm on Shetland and there's both hope and consternation that the ferries might reopen for general travel after the 15th July. There is a big concern of 'tourists' bringing any C19 up, but at the same time people want to be able to travel sooth to see family. By then the rest of the UK will be able to drive where ever and much as I love Shetland it would be good to get to see family off island.

There is talk of levels of priority as numbers on the ferries and planes will be very restricted still so: essential/key workers top, then islanders, then tourists for places.

I would say dont let the midgies affect your plans other than packing the smidge and a head net incase they are at their very worst.
