Coronavirus and moderation

Postby Paul Webster » Wed Jun 24, 2020 9:22 am

There has been much discussion of the government guidance on coronavirus. We have no idea whether the guidance is correct and sensible; it's a hugely complex and serious situation in which we have no expertise. We do, however, have a duty to let people know what the official guidance is.

At the start of the lockdown, we implemented a rule that we would only allow trip reports that were not a breach of government rules applying in each UK country. This has largely been respected.

Here on the discussion boards, there has been a lively discussion about the coronavirus guidance and law. Several users have been advocating twisting or breaking of the rules.

We've also been swamped with emails and private messages from the many forum users who are behaving responsibly in following official public health advice. They are very angry and upset that others who are breaching the guidance are making many posts 'rubbing their noses in it' and 'encouraging others to endanger public health'.

We therefore have taken the decision that we will not allow any further posts which advocate breaking or twisting the lockdown rules that apply in any part of the UK. As lockdown begins to be lifted, we will similarly not allow posts that say people should not travel around the country when the guidance permits it.

I'm sorry to have these restrictions but feel they are necessary to keep this forum a positive place for all.
