Excellent news and enough time for things to settle down before mid October, when I hope to be able to make a long overdue foray into Glen Shiel. Until then I may even try to bag a Hewitt or three.

A big well done to all the individuals who campaigned hard and largely under the radar to get the 5 mile advice removed from the government guidelines. At last someone listened and it is to the benefit of all.

Might be worth checking the status of routes on Facebook etc to get current conditions, eg Curved Ridge has suffered rockfall and may be loose.

Good point gman. Also worth bearing in mind moutain rescue have stated their capabilities are going to be greatly reduced while working with the corona.

There was advice from MRT before the lockdown that folk should stick to hills, routes and conditions well with in their capabilities - Its still good advice.

....given my current level of fitness, perhaps I should stick to the hill up to the local shops

The strange thing is government advice is still "Avoid crowded places"

Keen as I am to get out, I think I'll be waiting for the initial rush / school holidays to finish, and for teething problems with social distancing at pubs and hotels to be worked out.

So back to normal then.

The bugs have other food sources than humans, and irresponsible people have always existed, and always will.

Staying away because of normal conditions seems illogical, unless you mean you will go in late autumn when the biting insect population has subsided.

How do you know if the place you plan to visit is crowded before you get there? If I wanted to backpack from Glenfinnan to Inverie then to Kinloch Hourn, is that likely to be crowded?

I think it will be fair to predict that the A9 northwards and the A82 ditto will be solid with traffic on the first week especially if people haven't had to go back to work yet.

I have a few within 30 miles to start me off with, one walk should be quiet enough because the two Munros are usually accessed a different way but I still think it will be a set off early thing until things quieten down. Plus its cooler earlier in the day.
