H,

New on here so take it easy :)

Anyone been to loch dee from bruces stone or glentrool? How is the path, straightforward? Is google maps enough to follow or do we need other alternative guidance

Thanks

I've had a look at my map and there is a national cycle route (No 7) between them, it crosses the southern upland way and then rejoins it nearer Loch Dee. I haven't walked there yet (plan to go to Bruces Stone and Loch Trool in the next few days) but i'd imagine the cycle route would be pretty easy to follow from google maps.

Have a look at the route description and map for the " Donald" lamachan Hill on here. I followed this route back when I did the 2 donalds there. Good track all the way.

Yup although that shows the cycle path on the south there is a track on the north side leading to The Bruce's stone and parking area

Simple no problems as now you can cycle it on the "newish "forest track. Although the SUW route it on the opposite side of the river and rough.

The Galloway Midgies are a breed apart; descended from those which fed on the Border Reivers, they can bite through sheet-steel armour and draw blood so badly it trickles out of your chainmail. Legend has it the garrison of Threave Castle gave up not because of the battering by Mons Meg, the Great Gunne which levelled many a fortress, but because it was midgie season and they had run out of Smidge.
