Weather apps

Weather apps

I normally use Met office for forecasts but started to notice that it isn’t very accurate around chances of rain and the BBC weather seems more accurate. Pretty sure it used to be the other way round. I do use MWIS but it’s a bit “Broad” - I would like to know if it’s going to be better in assynt than kintail! I do realise that “forecast” for rain in the highlands will never be spot on, but just curious what people have found?

I use a variety of forecasts but find some are better than others with none being consistently more accurate. I think many are based on programs and so constantly change. MWIS and MET-mountain are perhaps more general but do give narrative which gives a better overall view. Some links below - cheers :)

100% agree re: BBC being more accurate than the Met Office . Fair enough you don't get specific mountain information but for rain and cloud coverage (which is what I'm mainly bothered about) I've found it more reliable for a while.

mwis and bbc for me, although the older I get the more I realise that unless the forecast is dire and has been for days, it's sometimes worth just having a go against a classic bbc hedging 'showers and sunny intervals' forecast

Thanks folks, bbc does seem a wee bit more accurate and it’s only rain I am looking at! Hadn’t seen mountain forecasts.com before and it looks quite good, certainly fairly accurate for today. Planning Fannichs tomorrow and it looks promising, but it hardly ever rains there anyway!!

Hi,
Agree, I always check the Met office but BBC seems more accurate. For rain I use weather and radar app , it gives you the rain radar and seems very accurate to me
