Derry Lodge Cycle

Postby Fairweather Softie » Sun Aug 30, 2020 7:14 am

Hi,

Planning on cycling into Derry lodge to camp as a base. Will my hybrid bike with road tyres be up for the job? I say road tyres but I mean 1.25 inch width.

Should be fine it's a pretty decent track. The roughest bit is near the start, a few biggish stones here and there but nothing too troublesome. After the bridge it's an excellent track, better quality than many city centre roads!

You could potentially park at Inverie if LoD is going to be busy. It's only another 2-3 miles on a very good tarmac road with not too many climbs

I have often found the midges to be particularly 'pesky' around Derry Lodge - so much so that I'd rather cycle up and down to Derry Lodge a couple of extra times, rather than camp around there at this time of year.

Thanks again for suggestions, looks like weather still looks reasonable for this weekend. Cant take bike now as bike rack does not fit onto new car so is now on foot. Hopefully midges die between now and Friday night.
