cascading waterfall at Ben Dearg

Hi all,

I'm visiting the UK (from Australia) next year and am hoping to visit this waterfall

I can't post links as a newbie, but if you search Google Images for "cascading waterfall ben dearg" you'll find it first up.

I have been advised by Portree Info Centre that it is likely to be the "Lealt Falls, 3 miles north of the Old man of Storr on Skye, on the A855 road between Portree and Staffin"

That doesn't seem correct. Unless the images are referenced wrong.

Can anyone help me out?

Cheers,

Craig

This is what's commonly known as the Brides' Veil (or Bridal Veil) waterfall (you'll get a lot more hits if you Google for that). It is close to the A855 road, but about 1.5 miles south of the main Storr car park. There's a map and directions here: http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=33658

Don't be surprised to be underwhelmed by the size of the falls, though they are very attractive, and, unusually, are not improved by high water levels, when many of the subtle features get lost.

Hope you have a great trip!

Last time we went there was a coach load of Japanese women, all taking it in turn to pose and make it seem as if the waterfall was cascading around their shoulders to form a veil. Some of them pressed their rather elderly tour guide into being a stand in bride-groom. As you can see it isn't all that much.

Though when it has some more water in it, it could rival the one at NC 214321 though that isn't a long one either

On Skye, the one at NG568264 is usually bigger

According to my map that grid ref is a boggy bit of ground south of Luib. Is it right?

No, The ref should be NG534265. Something went wrong there, thanks for pointing it out, and apologies.
