Hi... Advice for the three peaks of Uist

Hi... Advice for the three peaks of Uist

Postby Sir_jim_bob » Wed Mar 13, 2019 6:04 pm

Hi everyone.

I'm off for a 9 day hike in mid June - walking north to south in Outer Hebrides. I'm only in the planning stage and I want advices about the three peaks - Thacla, Beinn Mhòr and Beinn Choradail - from Loch Sgioport to Taobh a Tuath. How tricky and hard is this walk? Is it to tricky to carry a 25 kg backpack?

I am happy for all tips and answers.

Thanks.

Jim, might be an idea to also post this question on the South Uist/Uibhist a Deas Appreciation Society page on Facebook. The locals in that part of the World should hopefully be able to give you all the info you need. Enjoy your walk :)

It's a perfectly reasonable backpacking route I'd say (although the summit ridge is quite narrow on Beinn Mhor, so you'd want to take care in high winds. But 25kg?? That's a lot of backpacking stuff!

There is probably some good info in this report by Klaasloopt:

Getting across the bog to the hills would be quite a struggle with that weight

Cheers! I will consider an alternative where I do not have to carry the whole packning.

25 kg.... Yes a bit too much... More like 15-17 kg.
Klaasloopt - Great reading! Thanks.
