Marker 12 - Loch Lomond

Marker 12 - Loch Lomond

Postby Youngtiger » Tue Aug 20, 2019 9:11 pm

Hi. Just been watching BBC’s “The Battle for Scotland’s Countryside” and was made aware of the Island of Inchcaillich. The pics from marker 12 - “the summit” - were stunning. Has anyone done this walk and if so, do they have any recommendations/tips?

Thanks.

Does Incailloch have wallabies and fallow deer? I remember many years ago a bunch of mates and I hired a boat from Luss and went on a rather drunken tour of the loch. Luckily we didn't die. Booze and boats don't mix well at all.

The wallabies are on a different island, name escapes me. Inchcailloch does have fallow deer. It is a lovely island, especially when bluebells are in full flower in spring.
Accessible by the wee boat from Balmaha, it can get quite busy with picnicking families.
The last time I went (last spring) there was a National Park warden manning a telescope where you could watch Ospreys on their nest.
Well worth a visit, not difficult terrain, it even has toilets (those dry ones, a bit whiffy but toilets nevertheless)
