A Big HELLO!

Hello! We (David and Susan) are a couple of lapsed walkers, returning to hill walking after about 10 years. In June, we are going to be spending 5 days in Spean Bridge followed by 2 days at Aviemore. We were wondering if anyone could recommend some routes for us to try. We will have a car but don’t what to spend too much of the day driving.

Many thanks.

David and Susan

Since you'll be in Spean Bridge you could take advantage of the nearby Aonach Mhor gondola, which whisks you up to 2,000ft without all that gasping, panting, sweating and falling over clutching at your chest thinking you're going to die kind of thing. Or is that just me? From there you can walk on up to the top, or traverse round into various impressive corries.Fab views all round. Also near Spean Bridge is Glen Roy with its weirdy parallel roads on the hillsides, or Loch Arkaig and its wild top end.
Aviemore has so much around it you're spoiled for choice-see this "say hello"forum "newbies - route advice".
Have a nice time!

There are 3 Munros in Glen Spean together which are an easy walk (after you've done the few miles along the boring track to get to them - if you have mountain bikes you could cycle it) - Creag Pitridh, Geal Charn (one of very many!) and Beinn a' Chlachair which you could miss out if you wanted as it's the hardest and very stony/not much fun to do. There's also Beinn a' Chaorainn/Beinn Teallach near Spean Bridge - they're an easy round but a bit boggy in the lower reaches. Also you can get the train to Corrour on Rannoch Moor and do the excessively easy Beinn na Lap above Loch Ossian. There's a nice tearoom at the station too;-)

Have a go at Creag Meagaidh - even if you only go to Coire Ardair it is well worthwhile - fabulous place
