After a hard game of hockey in the morning against Windermere, despite the weather we decided to add Troutbeck Tongue to our Wainwright list.

A good parking spot was found in a roadside pull in just before Limefitt Holiday Park. A short way along the road, a gate on the right gave access to a path at the edge of the field, enabling us to leave the busy road behind. Across a couple of fields we then reached a lovely path down an old tree lined lane leading onto Ing Lane

. Despite the low cloud covering the higher fells, Troutbeck Tongue was visible in the distance.

After following Ing Lane to a fork just before he farm,

we then followed the path across the field signposted High Street which soon joined up with a better track. However, this was soon left behind as a short, steep ascent commenced up the front of Troutbeck Tongue. Once on top of the rocky knoll, after taking in the limited views,

we continued to follow the path northwards until a track led down connecting with the valley path.

This track was followed

until we took a left fork to cross Hagg Gill close to a rather impressive stone barn.

We then followed the obvious track along the valley

passing Long Green Head as far as the back of Limefitt Holiday Park where a right fork took us a short distance down past the Haybarn Inn and through the holiday park back to the car,

This is an excellent short Wainwright walk if you only have limited time available or the weather on the higher fells is inclement.
