An extension to a simple summit, Binsey remains at its heart , on a clear day offering spectacular views of Skiddaw, the walk encompasses varied footpaths and some limited road walking but all relatively unfrequented .

Start NY202365 Lay-by on minor road off A591
Alternative parking at nearby Parking Lay-by on A591 at NY200363

I prefer to do this walk anticlockwise as it then affords good views from the get go, gradually improving.

The start is off the A591 and is signposted with a finger post down a farm track, this leads through a small sheep enclosure (gated) then to the right of the recently renovated Keswick Reach Lodge Retreat. This part of the walk is probably the most difficult to navigate as it appears to go through a “staff only” area and the courtyard of a farm house. (follow my GPS).

Crossing the A591 again to the right, a footpath continues up towards Binsey. Looking back at you climb you can get a first glimpse of the Scottish mountains the other side of the Solway.

The summit offers spectacular views of Skiddaw and Bas Lake, you can even make out Keswick and Derwent to the west

Dropping down to the south east corner you pick up the road walk (turn left and left again to High Ireby, where you pick up a footpath which heads west again.

This part of the walk affords a better view of the far north and Solway coast

The path drops down again to the minor road and parked car, Skiddaw once again comes into view.
