More Wainwright mopping up operations this weekend. Headed up to Thackthwaite on beautiful narrow lane from Cockermouth (note the bridge at Lorton has now been re-opened). Parked at quiet spot in Thackthwaite;
Headed up pretty woodland path to the fellside. Lunch with a view of Crummock Water.
.
A broad easy track headed round into a side valley and we took a last look at the view
before zig-zagging up through the grass. Not much to see here but very relaxed easy path which topped out at the top of Low Fell with a fantastic view of more interesting hills further south.
Back to the grasslands and on towards Fellbarrow
Arrived at the summit feeling slightly smug at being on the only sunny spot in Cumbria;
Dropped down into a boggy valley and back to Thackthwaite, a band of sunlight on the hills opposite;
A pleasant couple of hours. Stopped for a nice pint in the Wheatsheaf in Lorton. Good comfortable and untouristy pub.
