A pleasant, short walk completed in just over an hour and a quarter in ideal weather. I was looking to break up a long journey with a short hill walk. This served my purpose perfectly.
Parking is at the top of the minor road above Dent Station about 2.5 miles from Garsdale Station where the road is crossed by the Pennine Bridleway. There is room for several vehicles to park without blocking the gate.
- Starting point of the walk
The bridleway is followed until some gates and a stile are reached. Cross these and follow the fence up to the top of the hill. Another path or two break off the bridleway before this point, but they should be ignored.
- The point at which the bridleway is left
The top of the hill is marked by a trig point and a stone wall shelter on the summit.
- The summit area
You can return the same way, visiting a large, well built cairn on the way down (of particular interest to those who are geocachers) or continuing over the summit to pick up the bridleway on the other side of the hill to return to your starting point (in which case visit the large cairn on the way up!).
