Moel Ysgyfarnogod is a pretty attainable hill by Rhinog standards, a good track leading pleasantly between lakes and rocks to within a few hundred yards of the summit - even if in mist those last pathless yards are hard to find. With the possible extension route to Foel Penolau invisible, down the very marshy northern slopes (better to return the same way another time) and back on the track to the start.
It looked difficult to fit Pen y Brynfforchog naturally into any sort of good route, so this was a short approach from the high pass just to 'bag' the hill. Initially very steep by the fence up from the road, but then an easy curving grassy ridge to the pretty undistinguished hill top.
