Two half-day walks at opposite ends of the Beacons.
First, a good route in the Fforest Fawr - with the cliffs and cwm of Craig Cerrig-Gleisiad spectacular and quite unusual in this area. Steep but well-pathed at the start and end. The detour to Fan Fawr (quite a steep grassy final ascent) and slight diversion to Fan Frynych across the moors don't add all that much bar different views, but still pleasant.
Easy there-and-backs on clear well-trodden paths from the Gospel Pass to Black Mountain via Hay Bluff, and then to Twmpa. Good views north from the climbs, although the ridge to Black Mountain (would be very boggy if drifting from the path) is flat and featureless and the summit imperceptible - take bearings and then go a bit further to be sure you've reached it!
