After finishing my early shift at work I took the family out to Willingham Woods near Market Rasen. With a trip planned to do some small Wainwrights with the kids we had to get them wearing their new boots in.
They really enjoyed it although they got upset that they had a little bit of mud on them at the end of the walk.
Willingham Woods is Forestry Commission Land that has excellent public access. It is also popular with motor bikers who meet in the layby off the A631.

I see what you mean about the small boots! I wonder if you can get crampons for boots that size ... :D

The kids look to be really enjoying themselves. If they're not keen on getting mud on their boots though, it's best not to take them up any Pennine hills just yet ... :D

I wouldn't dream of taking them to Pennine hills just yet.I think they would disappear up to their necks.
We are doing Great Mell Fell,Little Mell Fell and Gowbarrow Fell in a few weeks time.
Hopefully they will be challenge enough without putting them off.

Great stuff Paulo, have wandered Willingham Woods a few times so happy memories for me, have been down in Lincolnshire last week but didn't get any walking in to speak of. Planned one along the river ancholme but didn't get the time.

Anyway - good luck to the wee boot squad for the hills (but remember, living in Lincolnshire they might wonder what the hell they are when they first see em)

Your right there ChrisW it will be shock to their system not having flat ground under their feet. The Wainwrights they will be doing will hopefully be within their capabilities.
Its trying to find the mix of giving them a challenge but not frightening them away from the great outdoors.
Its a pity you didn't get any walking done whilst down here.
