Very hot day with little wind, the frozen water was welcome.

Went up via Oxendale Beck/Whorneyside Force/Hell Gill/Buscoe Sike which was good as it was much less busy than "The Band" but should have done the route in reverse for a swim in the pools along that route! As it was, we had a pleasant foot soak in the Oxendale Beck at the end of the walk (it was at a very low level).

Went over most/all of the Crags of Crinkle Crags, was not much (anything?) in the way of scrambling, and Bowfell did not look as interesting/dramatic as its reputation suggests. Did not do the "bad step" as would have been down-climbing.

Lots of flying ants on/around the cairns
