Due to an improvement in the weather and some free time the wife and I decided to head to Wragby, Lincolnshire to do a walk in the Limewoods region. The Limewoods cover an area between Wragby, Bardney and Woodhall Spa and are an important area of small leaved lime woodland. This area has been designated as a National Nature Reserve (NNR).
Some parts of these woodlands are also working woodland with the Forestry Commission harvesting certain areas.
This walk started in Wragby Market Place and headed towards the old windmill. Then the site of a medieval manor and an old cemetery are past just south of Wragby.
A short walk next to a waterway and then a road and the Limewoods area is reached.Extensive work is ongoing in this area by the Woodlands Trust with several large areas being planted and picnic sites built. Most of the public rights of way are not yet on any maps.I could imagine in the future when the trees start to grow it will be a very attractive place to take the children for a walk.
After the Limewoods the next point of interest was Goltho Chapel which is a very small Chapel in the middle of nowhere. From here most of the walking was along roadsides past Wragby Maze back to the Market Place.
Overall this was a great walk, it was good to see that a lot is being done to recreate what this area would have been like hundreds of years ago.
