A lovely day was promised as we set off towards Buttermere, into the village and the steep drive up to Newlands Hause, room for around a dozen cars, they say there's always a space as most people admire the view and carry on.

This was to be a climb up and along the ridge taking in Knott Rigg and Ard Crags, and a return back as we had plans for later.

First view up
We soon made height and looked back to the Hause

We were getting higher

Soon gaining height

Over Buttermere to High Stile range
Enough now to see down the valley towards Catbells and Maiden Moor with Scope End in front and Blencathra, Clough Head etc behind

Lots of fells
We were still climbing steadily

Towards the ridge
Looking back we could see our route with the High Stile range in full view and Haystacks creeping in to the left

Looking back
The last piece before Knott Rigg was a bit boggy

We were soon on the summit at 536m

We could now see along to Ard Crags but there was a drop between them, also we passed the Birkett of Ill Crag for those who count them

Towards Ard Crags
On the summit of Ard Crags we had a great view towards the Eastern Fells and the Causey pike ridge

Wandope and Crag Hill
Looking back we could now see the rows of fells

High Stile and beyond
It was time to head back with the wind getting up in places but the views improving all the time

Back we go

On the edge for a photo
We were nearly back to the car and a drink

Home
As we opened a pop and thought we deserved it a chap cycled up from Buttermere, felt like passing it to him  In the car and down to Buttermere to park and knock off Rannerdale Knotts :D

This is one of my fav little walks with a wonderful sense of airiness without having to gain too much height, the final down hill bit is a real knee tester
