In the middle of our camping Easter weekend at Dale Bottom campsite, I took Gav (and his Rotweiller / Staffy cross "Sam") out for a bit of a jaunt. Gav is to marry my daughter-In-Law Charlotte in June and it was our introduction weekend (uptil then it's all been via Facebook).
Gav was well up for some walking but Sam was "not so sure" and quite unfit for such a big dog. Our trip out took in Barf (x2 ish), Lords Seat & Broom Fell from hotel below Barf.
Our first attempt up Barf was direct up past the Bishop Stone on the scree (direction from my father who obviously hadn't been up there in a while). After getting near the top we faced a shear rock wall with no way up or round (without the right gear and a dog we'd had to push most of the way up) so we headed back down to the start, found the right track up through the woods and started again. Once up Barf the other two fell tops are almost on a level and little further climbing to do.
Sam started to suffer in the heat on way back so we kept him hydrated and threw him in every stream we could find. He slept in the van back at the campsite for almost 2 days solid. Gav also left his new walking stick at the point where last photo was taken ... gutted !!
