I left the car just gone 8:00 am and followed the track to Ennerdale Water, then on along the shore for a few minutes before taking the faint path up to Anglers Crag.

From Anglers Crag a direct and steep line was taken toward Crag Fell, then rightwards a little towards a prominent pinnacle. Once this was reached a way was threaded up more steep grass and rock and out onto a level area. The way ahead was now barred by a line of crags above a scree slope, to the right (west) looked the best bet and after a couple of minutes i picked up a faint path which skirted the crags and then after doubling back east was soon on the summit of Crag Fell.

After 1 hour on the summit an easy stroll put me on Grike, the sun was now out and white clouds floated by under a blue sky :D

Leaving Grike i walked east and picked up the path at the edge of the forest, leaving the path at Grid Ref 102138 a patch of rough soggy ground was crossed to reach a wall and sheep fence which ran parallel in the direction of Whoap, then as the wall/fence turned at 90 degrees i carried straight on and up to Whoap, a few seconds to catch my breath then down and up to Lank Rigg.

The cloud had been building and the sky looked heavy as i left Lank Rigg and headed back over Whoap to the wall/fence which was followed steeply down in places to Ennerdale Water, after which a 3 km stroll put me back at the car.
