Dunmail Raise - Seat Sandal - Dunmail Raise (100 of 214)
Where was my head at this morning ?? Set off with Damson the dog from Dalton without camera, compass, food, phone or dog lead and only just remembered the map. As the rain was falling and the fog was set about the district I changed plans from Wasdale to somewhere more accessible. As I had Seat Sandal to do and had already done 75% of this route on my way up Helvellyn earlier in the year, it seemed a sensible choice (especially as I hadn't got my camera to record it !!) From the top of the stream / waterfall and just short of Grizedale Tarn I hooked right and directly up the steep bank to the top of Seat Sandal. From the cairn by the wall at the top, I left heading right with the plan of covering Fairfield (again) but on descending over the slippery rocks heading down to the Hause I found that the raincloud had descended with me and visibility was so poor that Fairfield wasn't even visible. At this point I decided it was probably a bit dangerous up here without the correct equipment and headed back by skirting the tarn and back down the way we came.
Although the ascent earlier in the year was far nicer weather (almost the opposite) it didn't stop my enjoyment of the gentle climb and the spectacle of the waterfalls in full flow.
Still a great little walk in all weathers ! And no surprise that I was the only one up there today.
I couldn't even see anything of St Sundays or more than a quarter of Grizedale Tarn !
