A cloudy day and visibility wasn't great. Little Mell Fell is quite dull fields and moorland but it was brightened up by some very pink sheep. Great Mell Fell is much more attractive and would certainly be a good viewpoint on a clear day. We parked just north of Brownrigg between the fells, at the start of the track that leads up to Great Mell Fell, and did the walk as a figure of 8, Little Mell Fell first. When starting up the track to Great Mell Fell from the parking place, do not turn right through the gate beside the National Trust sign saying "Great Mell Fell" as this takes you along a narrow and very wet path. Instead, go straight along the lane ignoring this gate and turn right on a stile at the end. Eventually you will find a motorway to the top.
