Mynydd Mawr.
Waking on our second day on our trip we woke on the Shores of Llyn y Dywarchen.
It was a very clear night and I slept very well until woken up at 0200 surrounded by loads of very noisy sheep.
The cloud was low about 500m and the summit of mynydd Mawr was in the cloud.
we had breakfast cleaned up came and headed into Rhyd Du before heading to Planwydd where we left the car.
We left the car with no packs and headed up through the forest it was a very boggy and narrow path to the stile where you exit the trees just below the steep climb up to Foel Rudd.

The path up is much defined and very good and it seemed like we were on the Foel Rudd in no time.
We started to discuss our misfortune with the low cloud and how I’d noticed that we weren’t taking many pictures. Once we reached the top of the cliffs just past Foel Rudd the loveliest thing happened, the cloud slowly started to lift and the views to the east were clear.
We quickly spotted the summit and could clearly see the ridge ahead.

The cameras were out and we were very trigger happy, the most sought after picture was of yesterday’s Nantille ridge but it remained in the cloud for the remainder of the walk. We hung around on the cliffs and took loads of pictures of Snowdon and its grassy Northern tops.
We made it to the summit very easily and it was a new Hewitt ticked for me, Alan realised on the walk that he’d climbed this hill for the first time 20 years ago!!
we took out summit pictures from the last summit of the trip and headed back down along the ridge to Foel Rudd.

The sun was out now and it was another lovely day, what was going to be just another “tick” had turned out to be another lovely day and the perfect finish to a couple days wild camping and walking.

it was now time to get home and shower!!!!! As we both smelt like smoked kippers.
Although a real out of the way hill I’d jump at the opportunity to climb her again.
