Annual walk with ex-colleagues from Sefton. After an olympic breakfast at the re-opened Little Chef in Ings (until darts becomes an olympic event, there can't be many olympians who start the day with one of those), we drew up in a cold, wet and gloomy Langdale. Waterproofs, hats and gloves on straight away, we headed up the Band. As we climbed, the cloud lifted and views opened up into Langstrath.
.
Three Tarns was quickly reached. The wind had dropped and we pushed up to the summit which despite the wintery conditions, was comfortable enough for lunch.
As we ate, the mist lifted and we got some superb views of Flat Crags.
We varied the descent route by heading down Hell Gill past the fine waterfall at Whorneyside Force
At that point the forecast rain arrived with a vengeance and chased us the last mile back to the Old Dungeon Ghyll where we struggled to dry out in front of the most miserable fire I have ever seen.
(apologies for picture quality - didn't look worth taking the camera from the bottom so pictures taken with phone.
