A long miserable walk in constant driving rain

Not one of my favourite walks this; 7 hours in the driving rain with a disobedient dog on a short leash which made everything from drinking tea to having a slash difficult.
Still, on the plus side, I used a compass for the first time and was amazed at how it just guided me through pathless bogs in the mist with uncanny accuracy. I instantly had more faith in it than any satnav I've ever used (not to mention my own sense of direction).
I saw about 10 people on the whole walk, four of them fairly harmless looking men with shotguns. The rest were just very wet looking people.
Nice pint in the seventeenth century inn afterwards. The roof was leaking a bit, but not as much as my new jacket did today. So much for gortex!
