LAKES - CENTRAL FELLS - BORROWDALE

Hello everyone, hope you are all well, this is our Saturday walk from last week when hubby and I had a couple of days in the Lakes, stopping in Threlkeld at this lovely new build cottage.

We were up before the crack of dawn and on our way to the Borrowdale Valley where we parked up at the National Trust car park just past Ashness Bridge, even at 7.10am there were several cars parked but even so we were afforded the luxury of having the bridge to ourselves. Time for a few photo's.

We had intended going to the Far Eastern fells but the forecast of low cloud cover to 500m made us alter plans, also a small chance of rain (they were wrong with that), as we climbed towards Walla Crag we were getting some good views over to Catbells and it was a pleasant morning.

We reached Walla Crag in good time but although we were in sun we could see the dark clouds moving in to the south

From there we could see our next Wainwright, that of Bleaberry Fell

After some steep steps and a false summit we were on the summit of Bleaberry Fell with the clouds gathering in the distance.

From there we could see the next top which was High Seat, as we new, this area would get boggier as we reached the next summit

We were then on High Seat and still dry, also not seen one person on our travels

Now the very soggy section where you try and cling onto the fenceline and negotiate The Peewits

It looked as if everywhere was having rain except us, we later knew this to be true as our friends were on Coniston Fells and getting wet.

We were then on a flat High Tove top where we suddenly found people coming at us from all directions, one couple who took our photo were going to Thirlmere as their friend was running in the 100km race

We then started to descend to Watendlath but after 10 minutes it was obvious the rain would get us so we kitted up and stowed the cameras so no lovely shots of the village or surprise view. It seemed a long walk back from Watendlath to the car but the rain had stopped and we had been fortunate, another 4 to the total and a good walk. Stay safe on the hills, love Sue

Amazed at the size of that new path up Bleaberry Fell. Did you stop for a cuppa in the little cafe at Watenlath - I wondered whether it was still there.

Yes Paul, its still there but we had descended in the rain down the slippy rock steps and it had abated so we made a dash for the car, so to speak, it had a few customers though. A lovely view looking down to the lake
