Great walk along the hill, Cefn Y Capel, which overlooks Ogwen Valley.

Left Capel Curig and walked along the A5 as far as Gwern Gof Isaf. Turned south and joined the main cycle path which I left after a quarter of a mile and tried to head over to Cefn Y Capel - Big mistake!

My map reading skills ignored the obvious peat bog and large scree / boulder area, along with the three streams I had to cross, none of which were particularly easy and took me an hour to do only a couple of k's!

The ascent was interesting, tried to go up a couple of rock chutes but these turned into climbs so headed down, worked along to the east and then climbed the easier ascent there.

On the top vis was poor, almost down to 10 metres or so. Good practice with the compass and no real problems navigating as the contours of the land were recognisable. Occasionally, the high winds did at least blow the cloud away at times revealing great views of the farms below.

The descent was messy as the ground was so saturated that water was running over the surface.
