From the parking area i took the bridleway which passed behind the church and on in the direction of Howtown, at about GR 443194 i turned south and headed for 1.3 km’s up the south southwest ridge to the summit of Steel Knotts.

A long rest was had before continuing south to pick up the northwest path down into the valley. After a brief look round the old church another path was followed to gain the south ridge at GR 430185 leading up to the summit of Beda Head, another fine viewpoint.

A leisurely lunch then a one hour stroll back down this ridge put me at the car. After dumping most of my gear a short hike soon had me on the summit of Hallin Fell, for me the best viewpoint of the day with Ullswater stretching off into the distance. After wandering around the summit to get some photo’s a few minutes walk put me back at the car.

This walk could easily be done in half the time i took, but on such a fine day i prefer to stroll round and take my time......

Lovely pics from a lovely area! You didn't put the full title of Steel Fell's summit rocks though - my favourite Lakeland name... Pikeawassa! :D

Some great pictures in there on what looks like a near perfect day in the Lakes. I agree that this part of the Lakes is stunning and more often than not it isn’t too busy either.

Love the pictures.
