Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks

Beautiful day so took the opportunity of going out into the fells. Arrived at Gatesgarth carpark at 10:00 and it was 21 degrees already! Was a bit nervous about going straight up Fleetwith but Wainwright says it's a beautful climb so do it. So I did. With a few minutes I was very sweaty, and as I was stopping to take photos (aka rest) I had salt stinging my eyes.

Taking in the view back to Buttermere (also having a breather!)

Took an hour to get to the top and it was lovely in the end, albeit reasonably strenuous in that heat. Then around Dubs quarry to discover quite a few people on a guided tour (and there's me thinking I would have some solitude mid week during term time!).

What a crowd!

Up to Haystacks with great views and back down via Scarth Gap. Watched a helicopter land on top of Great Gables. Hope no-one had heatstroke as it was definitely the weather for it by lunchtime. All other fells around about seemed to be empty so why not this one?? Had to hurry on the way back in order to get back for the school run. Unfortunately in my haste I fell about 50ms from the car, and now have a sore knee and wrist :(

That's a great walk. The route up Fleetwith Edge and the views back over Buttermere and Crummock Water are unforgettable.
