Nearly a Mosedale Round!!!

It's been a while since we headed round to Wasdale, but with the promise of good weather, that was our destination. Blue skies met us at Wast Water, so fuelled up, off we went . We made a slight early detour to have a look at Ritson's Force. Not the biggest in the Lakes by any stretch, but always nice to see We headed off into a sunny and warm Mosedale, with the intention of making a direct ascent up the front of Red Pike. Before heading up Red Pike, we went for a look at the Y Boulder. From here, it was just a matter of picking our way, with a few little scrambles thrown in, to the summit of Red Pike. While making our ascent, Simo had a near miss when a large, safe looking boulder, shifted beneath him causing him to bash his leg and pull something in his calf. Much cursing followed but, as we were nearer the top than the bottom we carried on. The summit was duly reached were we took stock of the situation. Nice views all round from here, with plenty of fells to see. Us Northerners are made of stern stuff, so on we carried, though at a slightly slower pace Steeple was our next stop. Spotted some lovely passage Dotterel on the walk across, no doubt heading to the Highlands. Steeple, from this side, is a very easy top to reach, so it was a quick on and off and up to Scoat Fell for lunch. It actually got quite cold here, and long sleeves were donned for a period. We had a chat with an older guy who was just about to complete his 3rd round of Wainwrights and ready to start his fourth We traversed Black Crag before making the stony ascent of Pillar. Simo's leg was feeling OK again now, so all was good By now, the sleeves were back off and it was really warm again. From the summit, we headed down to Pisgah and Pillar Rock. We had a little scramble up on to Pisgah, a rocky promontary adjacent to Pillar Rock. After a brief stop, we joined the Shamrock Traverse and headed for Robinson's Cairn. We joined the High Level Route and wound our way along towards the exit near Looking Stead. With only Kirk Fell to go, we were feeling good when Simo went and did it again!!! The smallest slip on the path, brought all the pain back to his calf and so it was decided to bail out on Black Sail Pass and head down It's an easy enough amble back down Mosedale, we were just a little disappointed to have to miss out Kirk Fell. Still, i'm sure it'll be there next time No drive to Wast Water would be complete without the obligatory shots of Britains Favourite View
