SOUR HOWES/SALLOWS & ARMBOTH

HELLO AGAIN, FOR SOME REASON IT WON'T LET ME PUT THE 3 PEAKS IN THE WAINWRIGHT BOX, ONLY ONE COMES UP Another early start to get a parking space just before Troutbeck Church and we were off up the Garburn Road.

It was a misty morning as we looked towards the Kirkstone Pass and Troutbeck Tongue

We were heading for Sour Howes, on the Wainwright hunt

After a bit of cross country and checking the satmap for the spot height we reached the top of Sour Howes, it seems people use the rock outcrop about 20 yards further on but the gps showed this as the high point, we went both anyway just to make sure

Then it was on to Sallows and we could see the Kentmere circuit popping through the clouds

As we reached Sallows through the bog we saw a first for us on a Lakes summit, a cow perhaps she was Wainwright bagging as well.

We then descened back down to the Garburn Road

ARMBOTH FELL 16/10/09

The last day of our holidays we wanted a quick walk as we were going to Grasmere for a cream tea but a serious accident shut the Ambleside to Grasmere road from 2.00am until after dinner so we had to drive right around. We set off from Armboth car park and up the gill,the views got better as we climbed, back to Thirlmere, the Dodds, Helvellyn etc and as we got higher we could see High Tove and High Seat, anyone doing this be prepared for wet feet as the area is very boggy as we knew from a couple of weeks ago

Oo-err - Armboth Fell after the 'summer' we've had! Very boggy! I did it after one of rare dry summers and it was a treat of a walk but it's renowned for being very bad otherwise!

Maybe the Wainwrights are listed under their other names, i.e. Sallows = Kentmere Pike, Sour Howes = Applethwaite Common? I can't remember as It's a while since I filled in my Wainwrights...

Hope that poor moo wasn't on her own - if she was, she definitely shouldn't have been there!

No the names are there but seem to cancel the other ones out, as for Daisy she was on her own but didn't seem upset, although come milking time

Sorry susan the names thing was caused by a change we were loading up - it is working ok now. Looked very early-wintery on the first half of your report - glad it was better for day 2.
